Revelot is a young Malaysian microbrand that launched with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2021 and has since built a sizable portfolio of stylish and accessible watches, including innovative designs like the LIMA Flieger, featuring a Damascus steel case. The latest Hexmariner 39 Durian Limited Edition dive watch takes a fun approach to design, honouring Malaysia’s iconic, often reviled and generally misunderstood fruit, the durian. Why reviled? Well, a strong and persistent odour has led to a partial ban in hotels in Bangkok and Singapore, for starters…

The durian is a large, spiky fruit with a “sharp” flavour, which carries into the diver’s aesthetic. The deep green dial has a geometric pattern that’s reminiscent of the fruit’s exterior thorns. Sliced open, the durian has a golden edible flesh that’s mirrored by the C3 Super-LumiNova on the hands and applied hexagonal indices. The dial text is in the same colour, while the lollipop seconds hand has a durian-shaped aperture. A black date window sits at 6 o’clock, while KING OF FRUITS is etched on the chapter ring. The latter is a bold statement, but die-hard durian fans will appreciate the nod to a fruit that’s banned from public transportation in Southeast Asia as it, well, STINKS.

The stainless steel case is modelled after the brand’s conventional Hexmariner 39 diver with a 39mm diameter and height of 13mm (48mm lug-to-lug). The unidirectional rotating bezel has a durian-green ceramic insert with a lume-filled diver’s scale that matches the dial colours. The bezel’s knurling even has a spiky design, while the guarded crown is signed with a yellow Revelot logo (that just happens to be spiky). An AR sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the sapphire case back has a printed durian silhouette in colour. Water resistance is 200 metres, so it’s a serious diver and even comes with three 20mm bracelet options – one with a glide-lock clasp, one with a five-hole micro-adjusting clasp and a new five-link design, all with quick release levers.

Powering the watch is a Seiko NH35 automatic (also known as the 4R35) with 24 jewels, a beat rate of 21,600vph (3Hz) and a 41-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes, seconds and date, and accuracy is rated at -20/+40 seconds per day, although it’s generally well within those parameters in practice.

The new, odour-free Revelot Hexmariner 39 Durian Limited Edition is available from July 18th with an Early Bird price of USD 325. Not bad for a fun, stylish and capable diver that’s limited to just 88 pieces. For more information and to place an odour (sorry, order), please visit Revelot’s website.

  1. The trouble with those chunky and shiny dive watches is, there are too many. The other problem is, I don’t like shiny and chunky together: it looks like a fat drug dealer covered in golden whackaboos. My mom always told me, either chunky or shiny but not both. It’s just good manners.

  2. People who eat durians… aren’t people.
I say this as a Southeast Asian.
    Disgusting fruit.
