Paulin Watches, founded in 2013 by three sisters and now part of anOrdain, has built its reputation on a bold, design-driven approach to watchmaking, characterised by distinctive typography and an original use of form and colour. With the Mara, the Glasgow-based brand takes a step into the world of professional watches, reimagining the diver through its lens of graphic clarity and thoughtful detail. The name comes from the Scots Gaelic word for “of the sea,” and while the Mara is recognisably Paulin in its aesthetic, it is also serious equipment. Here´s what we know.

The case of the Paulin Mara is a robust reworking of the brand’s earlier Modul design, here with sharper facets and alternating brushed and polished surfaces. At 39.7mm in diameter, 13.5mm thick (10.8mm excluding the double domed sapphire crystal) and 48mm lug-to-lug. A unidirectional 120-click bezel in domed sapphire (in grey or in blue) with Super-LumiNova markings printed on its underside sits slightly wider of the case to ensure grip with gloves. The screw-down crown contributes to the 300m water-resistance rating.

The dial, offered in deep black or vivid blue, emphasises clarity and character, reflecting Paulin’s distinct design, with bold geometric hour markers, except for numerals at 6 and 12 o´clock, a clean minute track and the brand’s custom ‘Wim’ typeface. Each dial, manufactured in Germany from lacquered brass, features indices treated with Super-LumiNova and printed in relief. The hour and minute hands are wide, while a lollipop seconds hand with a contrasting coloured tip adds a touch of playfulness.

The watch is powered by the La Joux-Perret G101 in its soigné grade, an automatic movement with a 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency and a 68-hour power reserve. A robust movement that keeps costs under control.

Each Paulin Mara is supplied with two interchangeable straps: a custom-moulded HNBR rubber strap and a Tide fabric strap, made from recycled fishing nets, which is lined with Italian Alcantara and hand-stitched in Glasgow by anOrdain’s seamstress. Both can be swapped easily.

The Paulin Mara will be available from 22 August 2025 at 4 PM BST, priced at GBP 1,200 or USD 1,650 (excl. VAT). While not a limited edition, production will remain intentionally small. For more details, please visit PaulinWatches.com.

  1. My initial reaction was it looks like a kids watch, but actually it grew on me quick, it’s a pretty good little package.
