While the name Gérald Genta (1931-2011) is associated with some of the most successful and enduring watch designs of the 20th century, the designer also expressed his creativity through his own brand, Gerald Charles. Following the designer’s death, the Gerald Charles brand was revived by Federico Zivani. Inspired by an idiosyncratic case designed by Gérald Genta in 2006, the brand uses the Maestro as the base of all its collections. Last year, Gerald Charles dipped its toes in the luxury sports watch pool with the Masterlink, a slimmed-down version of the Maestro case with an asymmetric integrated bracelet. Unveiled at Geneva Watch Days 2025, Gerald Charles presents three limited gem-set editions of the Masterlink.

Like earlier editions, the new Masterlink models come in compact 38mm x 38mm stainless steel cases with a lean height of just 7.99mm. Respectful of the Baroque design elements envisioned by Gérald Genta, the two-tiered bezel and the indented “smile” at 6 o’clock of the Maestro are featured in the Masterlink. Fitted with a screw-down crown featuring a prominent Clous de Paris grip, the case is rated to a depth of 100 metres.

The superior white gold tier of the bezel is set with 60 baguette-cut gemstones, available in blue sapphires, red sapphires, or green tsavorites. Due to the Maestro’s asymmetrical contours, each stone is custom-cut and invisibly set to conceal the underlying metal structure, resulting in a seamless, smooth, and snag-free surface. The silver dial is decorated with a vertical linear pattern composed of two separate levels and features 13 applied baguette-cut gemstone indices indicated by baton hands filled with Super-LumiNova.

One of the winning design features of the Masterlink is its asymmetrical integrated bracelet. The signature “smile” at the base of the case is echoed in the curve of the first two links that gradually straighten out, while the links at the top match the straight lines of the case. Beautifully constructed with hidden screws, the tapering links feature vertically brushed and polished finishes that flow seamlessly into the concealed butterfly clasp.

The Masterlink is powered by an ultra-slim 2.7mm-thick automatic movement with a micro-rotor. Developed exclusively for Gerald Charles in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, the movement beats at a frequency of 3Hz and delivers a power reserve of 50 hours.

The Masterlink Gem-Set is limited to 10 pieces in each gemstone colour. Price is upon request.
