The New Doxa SUB 750T Clive Cussler Edition
A slimmer, sharper homage to the writer and explorer, released on his 94th birthday.
Since 1889, Doxa has been synonymous with adventure beneath the waves. Born in Le Locle, Doxa revolutionised the dive watch world in the mid-1960s with the original SUB, a dive watch with a unidirectional bezel for tracking no-decompression dive times, paired with its now-iconic bright orange dial for unmatched underwater legibility. Since then, Doxa timepieces have remained trusted tools for adventurers, a fiery symbol of the call to the unknown. This spirit lives on in the new Doxa SUB 750T, the brand’s latest tribute to one of its most legendary fans, American novelist and maritime explorer Clive Cussler, whose storytelling and shipwreck hunting cemented the SUB’s place in popular culture.

Twenty years ago, Sahara, the film adaptation of Cussler’s novel, brought Doxa´s distinctive SUB dive watch to the big screen, strapped to the wrist of Dirk Pitt, the fearless hero played by Matthew McConaughey. That orange dial was impossible to miss, forever linking Doxa to thrilling fictional adventures and real-life underwater discoveries. Clive Cussler, who wrote or co-wrote over 85 novels and founded the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), a non-profit dedicated to discovering and preserving historic shipwrecks, made the Doxa SUB a recurring character in his books and on countless expeditions.
The new SUB 750T Clive Cussler is the third chapter in Doxa’s homage to the writer and explorer, following the SUB 300T Clive Cussler and the stealthy SUB 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler editions.
This time, Doxa reimagines the robust 45mm SUB 750T with a sleeker yet immediately recognisable silhouette: the stainless steel case is 11.95mm thick, nearly 2mm thinner than the original SUB 750T first launched two decades ago, delivering a more refined, comfortable fit without compromising professional-grade durability. The case’s surfaces have a rugged, utilitarian charm, with the unidirectional rotating bezel for calculating and monitoring no-decompression dive times. The screw-down crown is well protected, and, like every Doxa, the watch is engineered to withstand harsh conditions, with a water resistance rating of 750 meters.
The solid screw-in caseback reveals an engraved compass rose, a nod to Cussler’s dedication to exploration and the maritime mysteries NUMA continues to uncover. Each cardinal point of the rose symbolises an element of Cussler’s legacy: truth, mystery, discovery, and the fulfilment of adventure.
The dial stays true to what made the Doxa SUB instantly recognisable decades ago, the signature vibrant Professional Orange colour. Contrasting black markers and bold hands with Super-LumiNova coating provide bright, reliable legibility in the darkest conditions. A date window sits at 3 o’clock, with the numerals 7, 15, and 31 highlighted in orange to mark Cussler’s birthday and the Sahara release date. At 7:30 on the dial, a NUMA logo honours the non-profit agency Cussler founded in 1979.
To keep the price in a reasonable range, and providing reliable timekeeping, the SUB 750T Clive Cussler is powered by the automatic Sellita SW300 mechanical movement (an alternative to the ETA 2892), operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering a 56-hour autonomy.
True to the spirit of the original tool watch, the SUB 750T Clive Cussler offers two versatile choices, a stainless steel “beads of rice” bracelet, polished and brushed for a vintage look, fitted with a folding clasp engraved with the Doxa fish emblem and a diving suit extension for easy wetsuit wear, and an orange NATO strap with a central black stripe.
The SUB 750T Clive Cussler is limited to 94 numbered pieces, a nod to what would have been Cussler’s 94th birthday this July 15th. The price CHF 2,690, EUR 2,890, or USD 2,990 and a portion of proceeds will support NUMA’s ongoing missions to preserve maritime heritage and uncover forgotten stories resting on the ocean floor. The watch is available exclusively at doxawatches.com.
