A discreet but rather productive watch brand, Delma is also one with a long track record, as the brand celebrated last year its 100th anniversary. For what is our concern of the day, Delma has made a name for itself in recent years with its rather impressive offering in the field of dive watches, mixing superior aquatic capacities with affordability – look at the Blue Shark IV and its 5000m water-resistance, and you’ll understand. Last year, the brand released a special edition of its Oceanmaster, the Oliver Heer Ocean Racing edition, fitted with a white luminous dial. This year, with the Delma Oceanmaster Lume, the concept is back in an array of vibrant colours.

In itself, the Delma Oceanmaster is already a fairly special dive watch. Not only does it deliver a high level of resistance and solid diving credentials, but it’s also a watch that has been designed as a tool for sailing and navigation. Not your typical dive watch with a 60-minute scale. It offers more, and feels original. It’s a watch that can dive or guide sailors around the globe.

The case of the new Oceanmaster Lume series is familiar and retains what has made the success of previous iterations. A large and robust watch, it measures 44mm in diameter and 13.8mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 51mm. The cushion-shaped case, with brushed surfaces and nice polished bevels, has been designed for action, with large crown guards and a 500m water-resistance. A helium escape valve sits on the case side at 9 o’clock. The easy-to-grip nautical unidirectional bezel is marked with a 360-degree scale, helping in navigation. A thick sapphire crystal protects the dial while a see-through mineral caseback equips these lumed versions.

What sets these editions apart, compared to the standard editions of the Oceanmaster, are the dials. At first, it retains the classic layout of other models, with the elements that make it a tool for navigation and nautical activities: a tactical planner and points-of-sail indicators. During the day, Delma has given these Oceanmaster Lume bright colours – light blue, light green, yellow and orange – that contrast with the white lume of the applied markers and hands, as well as the tactical indications. But wait for the light to go down, and the dials reveal their true nature, as the entire coloured surface is actually made from Super-LumiNova, paired with vibrant green-emitting hands and indexes.

Inside the case, in order to deliver the watch at a fair price and with the necessary reliability you expect from a tool watch, Delma relies on the tried-and-tested Sellita SW200, a clone of the ETA 2824. The watches are delivered on a 24mm stainless steel 3-link bracelet with brushed and polished surfaces and a folding clasp.

Released as part of the brand’s permanent collection, all four editions of the Delma Oceanmaster Lume are priced at EUR 1,500, CHF 1,350 or USD 1,650 and available from the brand’s webstore. For more details, please visit www.delmawatches.com.
