Following the recent release of the DB25xs Starry Varius, De Bethune continues to refine its icons with the launch of the DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon, another watch that distils the brand´s design language and technical savoir-faire into a more compact format. Drawing on the thin profile of last year’s DB28XP Kind of Blue (43mm x 9.1mm) and its luminous heat-blued titanium aesthetic, this latest creation feels quintessentially De Bethune. The familiar signatures are all present, like the floating lugs, a crown at 12 o’clock, and the delta-shaped mainplate, now rendered in a smaller case that wears with remarkable comfort and proportion.

The new DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon is crafted from grade 5 titanium; the case is mirror-polished before undergoing the brand´s proprietary thermal oxidation, resulting in a vibrant and enduring blue tone. The restrained 8mm thickness underscores the ergonomic achievement, with the patented floating lugs adapting naturally to the wrist. Sapphire crystals with double anti-reflective treatment front and back ensure a clear view of both the architecture and mechanics within.

The dial reveals De Bethune’s distinctive design: a microlight-engraved titanium hour ring punctuated with polished markers, a circular satin-finished minutes track, and a triangular bridge at the centre, all blued and polished to perfection. In contrast to the earlier DB28XP, there´s no Milky Way pattern here. Polished titanium hands mark the hours and minutes with clarity. At 6 o’clock, the ultra-light 30-second tourbillon, a miniature ballet of engineering, stages its performance. Weighing just 0.18 grams, the titanium cage is composed of 63 components, the lightest of which is less than a thousandth of a gram and rotates twice per minute at a rapid 36,000 vibrations/hour.

The new DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon employs the calibre DB2009v7, a hand-wound movement comprising 238 parts. Equipped with De Bethune’s key innovations, it features a titanium balance with white gold inserts for stability, the patented balance spring with flat terminal curve, a silicon escape wheel, and the brand´s triple pare-chute shock absorber. Energy is supplied by twin self-regulating barrels, ensuring a robust 5-day power reserve while maintaining chronometric precision. The finishing is executed to De Bethune’s uncompromising standards: hand-chamfered steel parts, polished bevels, and the unique decorative signatures that make each calibre a visual as well as technical delight.

The DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon is worn on an extra-supple alligator strap with matching lining and fastened by a blued titanium pin buckle, completing its harmonious presence on the wrist. Price is USD 225,000. For more information, please visit www.debethune.ch.
