When Citizen released the Tsuyosa back in 2022, its introduction made some noise… The idea: an accessible, sub-€300 watch with a cool 1980s vibe, an integrated(ish) bracelet, a tonneau-shaped case riding the luxury sports watch trend, and an automatic movement inside. The result was a clear commercial success and a collection that never ceases to expand. More colours, more textures, a more powerful movement, different displays… And earlier this year, we saw the introduction of the long-awaited mid-size edition of this watch, the Tsuyosa 37. Following the inaugural models in ice blue, dark green and light pink, it’s time for the compact model to get new dial colours, in dark blue or purple.

The 5 versions of the Citizen Tsuyosa 37, including the new blue and purple models

Let’s start with what has not changed… These new editions of the Citizen Tsuyosa 37 retain everything we explained in our review back in February 2025. This means a well-known design, reduced by 3mm. The case, now measuring 37mm in diameter and 11.5mm in thickness, retains the same shape as before (inspired by the popular NH299 series from the 1990s), and the same set of specifications. This means a sapphire crystal on top with a magnifier over the date, a mineral crystal on the back, a crown at 4 o’clock (but less recessed than in the 40mm edition), a classic combination of vertically brushed surfaces and polished accents (lateral bevels and bezel), and 50m water-resistance. As expected, the case is also shorter (43mm lug-to-lug) and the bracelet narrower.

These new blue and purple versions of the Tsuyosa 37 also retain the same mechanics as the inaugural editions and the 40mm model. This means an entry-level automatic movement, the calibre 8210, with a 3Hz frequency, 42h of power reserve and a stop-seconds mechanism. The view through the exhibition caseback is fairly rough, with uncoated brass bridges and rotor. If you’re looking for a watch with a more powerful movement and a nicer view through the back, then the Tsuyosa 60 Automatic is the one to choose.

As mentioned, the Tsuyosa 37 was launched in three versions – ice blue, pink and green – and I’ve been a bit disappointed by the choice of colours (a very personal remark, I agree). Now, the collection expands with two colours that couldn’t be more different, even though not too far in terms of tonality. On one side, we have an all-time classic for the genre, with a sunray-brushed dark blue dial. On the other hand, there is a much bolder choice, with a purple dial. For the rest, the applied markers and hands are unchanged and still filled with luminous material. Both editions also retain the same 3-link steel bracelet.

Now available from the brand and its retailers, the Citizen Tsuyosa 37 Blue (NJ0200-50M) and Purple (NJ0200-50W) are launched in the permanent collection and are priced at EUR 299. For more details, please visit CitizenWatch.eu or CitizenWatch-Global.com.
