Following the recent Ice Blue and Manufacture editions in Green and Blue that Armin Strom presented after the series update in 2022, the brand now reveals a new chapter for its iconic complication, with a warm, higher-end version of the Mirrored Force Resonance, in rose gold with a handsome black guilloche dial.

The resonance phenomenon has fascinated scientists and watchmakers for centuries, but its application in horology has proved challenging. First observed in 1665 by Christiaan Huygens, the Dutch mathematician and inventor, noticed that two of his pendulum clocks, hung from the same wooden beam, began to oscillate in perfect unison. This rare synchronisation intrigued generations of watchmakers, with only a select few in the past and in modern times successfully bringing it to life in a watch.

Armin Strom presented its groundbreaking take on resonance with the patented Resonance Clutch Spring in 2016. This thin, precisely formed steel component physically links the balance spring studs of two independent oscillators. Acting much like Huygens’ wooden beam, the spring transmits microscopic vibrations between the balances, allowing them to synchronise while rotating in opposite directions. The result is the enhanced chronometric stability, resistance to disturbances, and a captivating visual display. The system is quick to recover its symmetry, within a few minutes from start-up, and a pusher at 2 o’clock allows the wearer to reset the twin running seconds hands to confirm the effect in real time.

The 2025 Mirrored Force Resonance Rose Gold edition is the first time the case of the watch has been crafted in 18K rose gold (the inaugural 2016 model was encased in pink gold, and steel is the brand´s preferred choice). Measuring 43mm in diameter, 11.55mm thick, and 49.60mm lug-to-lug, the case with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces is topped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and has a sapphire display back. Water resistance is rated at 30m.

The dial architecture remains familiar yet gains a new personality in this edition. The off-centred time display is set against a black handcrafted guilloché disc, its sunray pattern cut on a traditional rose engine lathe. The azuré-finished chapter ring with circular brushing frames applied baton hour markers and polished rose gold-coloured hands. On the left, the resonance mechanism takes centre stage, two balance wheels, each with its own gear train and barrel, linked by the Resonance Clutch Spring, and flanked by synchronised seconds sub-dials.

The new Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Rose Gold edition relies on hand-wound Calibre ARF21, comprising 276 components, operating at a 25,200 vibrations/hour frequency and stores 48 hours of power reserve across its twin barrels. Mirror-imaged open bridges and gears emphasise the movement’s symmetry, while decoration is to the highest haute horlogerie standards: wide hand-polished chamfers, perlage, satin brushing, black polishing on screws, and engraved plates.

The Mirrored Force Resonance Rose Gold is worn on a dark grey Alcantara strap with grey stitching and a rose gold pin buckle. Limited to 15 pieces, it is priced at CHF 88,000. For more information, please consult arminstrom.com.

  1. What a beauty. Now please remove one zero so I can get two: one to wear upside up and the other upside down.
